In April of last year Matt Bernson, the shoe designer whose work you've seen in Scoop, Madewell, Bergdorfs and even Urban Outfitters opened his first store in TriBeCa. The very personalized space is bright and airy, filled with furniture Matt refinished himself, his dog Abraham and when opened was blessed by a Tibetan monk and family friend. On the walls and lining the shelves are cute patent flats, colorful wedges, sandals and comfortable heels.
In an interview with Matt, his wife Lindsey son Myles and Abraham the dog published today in WWD, Matt reveals he has identified Chicago as one of the next cities for branded boutiques. Matt says, "I'd like to take our Tribeca aesthetic and apply it to each city's look and feel." The designer notes he will look for more high-traffic spots in these cities, but interesting architecture is a must.
We're thinking Bucktown.
