Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
It isn't exactly glamorous, but L.L.Bean does play an important role in the retail landscape of America. This weekend, the brand will also gain a huge presence in Chicago.
The 2013 L.L.Bean Bootmobile Tour (like the Batmobile, but much less aerodynamic and much more woodsman-y) will be parked at Navy Pier on Saturday, July 20 from 10am to 4pm. The goal of the 13-foot Bootmobile is to "inspire people to spend more time outdoors" this summer. At the scene, L.L.Bean will have information about local outdoor attractions and guests will have a chance at winning a hiking, camping, or beach gear giveaway package. At the very least, everyone will be able to take photos in front of a giant boot.
