The Dramatic YSL Mascara Worth Upgrading For

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Today's pick comes from Racked Chicago associate editor Zara Husaini.

YSL Babydoll mascara, $30 at Sephora.

What do you do when you're out running errands completely barefaced and you get a sudden invitation to a party? If you're anything like me, you don't run home to freshen up—because ain't nobody got time for that. Instead you duck into your nearest department store for a quick swipe of high-end mascara.

For the record, I wasn't looking for a new lash lengthener when I ran into my neighborhood Nordstrom for a touch-up. But after a team of gushing salesgirls convinced me to try YSL's newest offering, I couldn't walk out without a tube of the stuff. Babydoll is the name of this formula, but its effect is absolute glamor. A few coats of the ultra-black, super-glossy formula and my lashes are long, lifted and impossible to ignore. It isn't exactly subtle, but the effect is amazing and the brush is the most flexible I've ever used. I think every girl should own a tube of this.
