In the age of expensive classes and workout pants that cost as much as a weeks' worth of groceries, Melissa McNamara-Tanski worried that pilates was becoming out of touch. So, she opened mind art core Pilates Performance this month at 4945 N. Damen Avenue, bringing accessible exercise to Lincoln Square. Classes, which generally reach capacity at 15 people, range from $15 to $18, or you can grab a discounted rate of around $13 per class with the purchase of a series pack. Instead of getting hung up on whether you're a beginner or intermediate when you sign up for each class, you'll be able to choose the class based on your goal, like increasing your heartrate to practicing your balance.
Grab a glass of Pinot after your workout—we told you this isn't your typical sweat session. Another sweet deal: In honor of the opening, if you buy a series of group classes by tomorrow, you'll receive 50% off the second.—Moira Lawler
