Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Too broke for fall shopping? Kandy Christensen, owner of Meandering Design, is teaching a September class on how to revamp your closet without shelling out a fortune. Christensen will teach basic sewing techniques at this $25-a-pop crash course. Just bring an old item you'd like to revamp (your mom's old silk dress; a pair of pants that you thought were cute in college) and prepare to emerge with a brand-new item.

The class will take place at the Chicago Glass Collective on September 2 from 6pm to 8pm. Register here.
