CHICAGO—2013 was undisputedly a landmark year in the Chicago restaurant and bar scenes. To make sense of it, we recruited the local food and drink writing community and highlighted the biggest openings, closings, and chef shuffles of the year.
WEST LOOP—While we're on the topic of 2013, was there a greater restaurant success of the year than Grace? Fittingly, we interviewed them on their first year and ran it on New Year's Eve. It's their goal to be "the greatest restaurant in the world."
WEST LOOP—While Grace is a runaway success, OON was not. It shuttered after less than six months on restaurant row (Randolph Street) amidst a lawsuit, staff defections, slow business, and lackluster reviews.
LOGAN SQUARE—The block of 2300 N Milwaukee already has one restaurant or bar after another opening soon or already open, and yet another is on its way. Get ready for table games, beer, and whiskey from the owners of Wicker Park's Emporium Arcade Bar.
