Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
From March 13 to 20, the Thompson Chicago will sell swanky candles at a lobby pop-up shop. Olfactory branding company 12.29, which develops signature scents for celebrities, big brands, and fashion shows, has also cooked up a signature scent for the Chicago property called Velvet.
The shop will stock candles in three poetically named scents: "A Dark Affair Desire," "A Forgotten Memory," and "Forgot Everything But Me." This will be the only spot in Chicago to sell the 12.29 candles, which are otherwise only available online. Plus, the concierge team will offer "fragrance consultations" to help you decide whether you're more of a dark-affair or forgotten-memory type.
