Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Vintage Garage Chicago has its season opener on Sunday. Held in an Uptown parking garage, the flea market will offer goods from 100 Midwestern vintage dealers—expect everything from vinyl to jewelry and vintage threads. After Sunday, the market will take place every third Sunday of the month through October, and each iteration gets a different theme. (We've already saved the date for July 20, because: "Rockabilly and Tiki.")
The season opener kicks off with a special event that's quintessentially Chicago. Bike lovers gather at 9 a.m. at the garage in their favorite vintage outfits. Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward, leads the crew on a free "style ride" along the waterfront. Seriously, could you see that in any other city?
