Breaking! Von Z Will Close As Owners Focus On New Venture

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

First, the bad news: Von Z is closing on May 10. But this is not the last we'll hear from store owner Jenna Zielbauer and her hubby-slash-business-partner, Patrick. The duo has big plans to grow their new line, Casual Friday.

You got a sneak peek at the shirts here, here's a little primer: The collection comprises butter-soft tees with fun—and often fashion-or-Beyoncé-related—sayings. "We see every piece as a chance to say what's on our minds without sacrificing an ounce of comfort or style," Jenna said in a press release. "The versatility of the shirts allows stores and customers to play designer. They look just as good underneath blazers as they do with sweatpants."

The Casual Friday apparel is currently sold in some 150 stores nationwide and online. It will also be on full display at a Casual Friday pop-up shop in the former Von Z space May 13 to July 26.

As for Von Z, its merchandise is currently 40 percent off, and there will be deeper discounts as the store nears its closing date.
