Sad news from the land of Facebook statuses. Local retail pro Mallory Ulaszek wrote this morning: " I have decided to close my store, Roam. It has been an incredible journey, and I am forever grateful to those who have shopped with us along the way."
The Old Town shop, which stocks everything from Voluspa candles to LD Tuttle sandals and clothing from ICB, will remain open until October. In a press release, Ulaszek announced that she has decided to leave retail after a five-year stint that also included ownership of CB and Cityblue Apparel and Denim (two boutiques that have closed.)
"My life is much different now than five years ago—I started my company when I was 24 years old and in a much different place, with different goals I wanted to achieve," Ulaszek said. "My priorities have changed and this is a completely personal decision...It's no secret that the retail industry is suffering and a lot of local mainstays have now closed. I saw this changing fast in the independent retail market and decided I needed to re-evaluate where I was invested."
As Ulaszek hones plans for her next project (stay tuned!), there are sales to be had. One is coming up on August 28, when Roam will host a shopping event from 6 to 8 p.m. Goods will be discounted by 50 to 85 percent from that date until closing.
