Jourdan Fairchild was the Chicago editor of DailyCandy when (sigh) the beloved site closed up shop. Fairchild made lemonade of the sour situation by using her new downtime to do something adventurous: She traveled to Africa to work with Watering Malawi, which builds wells in villages that sorely need water.

The experience, along with Fairchild's natural predilection towards crafting, inspired her to create a charming e-book that just hit her website today. (It will be available on Amazon down the line.) Called Fly DIY: Crafts for the Modern Traveler, the tome features gorgeous shots from local photographer Carolina Mariana, and—of course—tons of crafty ideas. "The projects I've created are all super easy, completely original, and truly affordable," Fairchild said via email. "My favorite one might be the $1 fly swatter I turned into a luggage tag." Speaking of dollars, 10 percent of the books proceeds will be donated to Watering Malawi.
