Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Racked Chicago's search for Chicago's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile eight smoking locals—fitness experts who not only look hot in spandex, but can make you look amazing, too. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown, in which readers vote for their favorites. Let the games begin!

Our sixth trainer is big on a little thing called CrossFit. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Jon Colborn knew he wanted to be a part of the fitness world from the time he was in high school. So he studied sports science in college, began to work as a personal trainer upon graduation, and from there, he was sucked into the world of CrossFit.

Jon was born and raised in the UK, but came to Chicago from London two and a half years ago. These days, you can find him coaching at The Foundry Chicago, where he tends to see the same group of people, which is cool—he now considers them a community of (very fit) friends.

For a man who's always known he loved fitness, it's not surprising that his favorite exercise is Olympic Lifting. He loves lifts that require power, speed, and have mysterious names like "clean" and "jerk" and "the snatch." When he's not lifting, he's most in his element in the great outdoors, whether that means "biking, swimming, going out on the lake, or playing golf. If it's sunny and I'm outside then it's all good!"

Don't go to Jon if you want to be coddled, though. His best advice? "If you're coming to the gym, then you're here to work, so make the most of it. If you want to take it easy, you can stay at home."
