Athleta, The Gap's sporty brand, will open a store in the Oak Street space that formerly housed Juicy Couture. According to Crain's Chicago Business, the 5,400-square-foot, two-story shop will represent something of an "outlier" on the high-end strip.
With neighbors such as Dolce & Gabbana and Tom Ford, the casual brand is bucking the Oak Street trend of getting ever-more upscale. "I think it's a surprising move that they'd go in the middle of Chicago's luxury street. I would have thought Michigan Avenue or Rush or Walton street would fit their co-tenancy more," Meredith Oliver, senior director of the Chicago office of Cushman & Wakefield Inc., told Crain's. "It's definitely surprising, but they're smart people and they know what they're doing."
