Free Rides

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This weekend ride-sharing app SideCar is offering free rides during peak hours 8pm to 2am in an effort to compete with market leaders Uber and Lyft. We loved SideCar when the app first hit Chicago last spring, but over the past year the network has struggled to keep up with demand. Because free rides means more money for shopping, Sidecar is certainly worth a try, but don't be surprised if there aren't any drivers available. [SideCar]
